De Gea’s poor form
Over the last few seasons David de Gea has been earning a name as one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
However, the 2018/19 campaign has not been too kind to the Spaniard.
While it obviously all can’t be blamed on de Gea, United have conceded their most ever goals in a Premier League season.
They broke the record when they lost 4-0 vs Everton and that tally has since increased to 51.

However, de Gea himself is also costing Man United with his individual mistakes.
The latest of which came in United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, a pivotal tie in the race for 4th place.

Schmeichel on de Gea
Despite this, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has backed de Gea and pins more of the blame on the team around the keeper:
“I am very, very disappointed with the short-sightedness of everyone.
“Every person who feels they have a right to comment on everything on social media.
“I urge people to have a look at the team he is playing in – look at the confidence of the team. Then have a look at what he’s done in the same kind of teams over the last four or five years. He’s been brilliant.
“Then he’s deemed to make a few mistakes – okay, one or two – but it happens. It happens to every goalkeeper.”As quoted by the Evening Standard.

Huddersfield vs Manchester United
Man United will now face Huddersfield this weekend in a must-win clash.
It is also a great game for de Gea to build up some confidence in as Huddersfield are the lowest scorers in the Premier League with just 20 goals from 36 outings.
After the draw last weekend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are three points behind 4th place Chelsea with two games left.
As a result, United need to beat Huddersfield and Cardiff in their final two fixtures.
Chelsea have a considerably harder last two games vs Watford and Leicester.
