My name is Alessandro Pinausi and for 10 weeks I had the opportunity to fly to Cape Town, South Africa to intern at a local soccer academy called Young Bafana Soccer Academy.
Young Bafana is a non-governmental organisation that offers a holistic type of development for children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in South Africa using football and education as a means to do so.
It is a small NGO that relies on interns to help run the academy. I was lucky enough to get selected to work at such a unique academy like Young Bafana.
The reason I enjoyed my time working there so much was because it incorporated two of my greatest passions, namely football and business/marketing.
This way I got the best of both worlds!
In the video, you can see what a typical intern does through his time at Young Bafana.
It usually begins with doing some of the more “traditional work” in the morning till early afternoon.
We are then involved in preparing food and training equipment for the training that occurs from 5 pm onwards.
The local kids are really appreciative of the work the interns do for them and are always happy with a smile on their face when a new intern arrives.
Young Bafana is an amazing organisation that does nothing but good for these kids and on top of that, are a very welcoming and open organisation making the intern feel at home instantly.
I believe that I have not only professionally developed but also personally due to the lessons and situations that I encountered there.
Despite the fact that my time at Young Bafana was short, it was most certainly memorable, insightful and an eye opener, and is an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life.
