Liverpool have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash with FC Barcelona.

Roberto Firmino, who has been struggling with a groin problem, has been deemed unfit to play this evening.

On Friday, Jurgen Klopp opted to replace the Brazilian with Daniel Sturridge and he now faces the same decision at the Nou Camp.

Firmino has failed to pass fitness tests before Barcelona and has been ruled out, according to Cadena SER.

The 27-year-old missed Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town with a groin problem.

Despite taking part in training at Melwood on Tuesday, Firmino will not feature for the Reds this evening.

Klopp now faces the dilemma of who to start instead, with Sturridge and Divock Origi two possible options.

Xherdan Shaqiri being drafted into the side with Mohamed Salah starting centrally is another possibility.

Firmino has been key for the Reds this term netting 16 goals in 46 appearances, including four in Europe.

The Reds’ manager Klopp has warned his side not to focus on just Lionel Messi on Wednesday.

He also responded to the Argentine’s “threat” over bringing the European Cup back to Barcelona.

Klopp said:

“It’s not only about Messi but of course it’s about him as well.

“Can we concentrate on Messi? We should in a lot of moments but if we only concentrate on him there are 10 other world-class players who can decide the game as well.

“Messi said before the season, ‘we want to bring back that cup’.

“That sounds like a threat to me.

“Now we did it, now we are here and all I can say is we want to go to the final as well.”
