Man United boss Solskjaer explains Phil Jones’ inclusion vs Sheffield United

Sheffield United vs Manchester United

Sunday’s only Premier League tie sees Manchester United facing Sheffield United.

Despite the Blades only just clinching promotion to the English top-flight last term, this clash will likely prove a tough test for the Red Devils.

Sheff United began the weekend up in 5th place in the PL after an emphatic start to the campaign.

Chris Wilder has got his side playing some excellent football and Man United shouldn’t take them lightly, especially given their away record this term.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have amassed just one win away from Old Trafford in the league this season, which came against a poor Norwich side.

A win for either of these sides would take them up to 5th in the Premier League.

Solskjaer on Jones starting

Heading into the game Man United released their starting line-up an hour before kick-off.

The line-up was pretty standard apart from one spot in United’s backline.

Phil Jones has struggled for minutes during the 2019/20 campaign and had actually yet to appear in the Premier League this season.

However, Jones is set to start for Man United vs Sheff United.

Solskjaer has since spoken about Jones, stating it is time for him to get a chance due to the attitude he has shown in training.

But Solskjaer also mentioned that Marcos Rojo is injured while Axel Tuanzebe isn’t really ready, meaning it was an easy option for Jones to come in:

“Phil has been training well. He’s got experience of playing both central midfield & at the back. When you show the attitude he’s shown in training, it’s time for him to get a chance. Marcos is injured, Axel isn’t really ready to come in so it was an easy option”

So, while OGS did seem to try and say Jones earned his spot due to his training, it does seem he is only starting due to injuries.
