Liverpool supporters have taken to Twitter in their numbers tonight to compare the challenge that saw Willy Boly handed his marching orders versus Manchester City, and that of Vincent Kompany on Mohamed Salah two weeks ago.
Man City vs Wolves
Pep Guardiola’s Citizens welcomed Wolves to the Etihad this evening, for a Premier League matchup.
The hosts came into proceedings on an absolutely scintillating run of form, having followed up their crucial 2-1 over Liverpool a fortnight ago with a staggering 16 goals across a pair of cup meetings with Rotherham and Burton Albion.

As such, it came as little surprise when City took the lead with just 10 minutes on the clock tonight.
A perfectly-weighted Aymeric Laporte through-ball split Wolves’ back-4 wide-open, with Leroy Sane’s subsequent delivery having been slid home by Gabriel Jesus.
Boly off
And the visitors’ task was made into a near-impossible one ten minutes later, when Willy Boly was sent for an early bath by referee Craig Pawson.
After winning the ball with his studs in a challenge with Bernardo Silva, Boly followed through in dangerous fashion onto the City midfielder’s calf, leaving Silva in a heap on the ground.

Pawson didn’t hesitate, and quickly produced a red card to reduce Wolves to 10 men.
Boly vs Kompany
The decision, though, has since led to major backlash online, on the part of the Liverpool faithful.
Reds’ fans have called into question why Boly was sent off for his challenge, whereas Vincent Kompany was only booked for his controversial studs-up tackle on Mohamed Salah during the crunch Premier League clash between City and Liverpool two weeks ago.
‘No consistency once again’
The question of ‘consistency’ has been raised by many, with some of the social media highlights showcased below:
How is that a red card for Boly but it wasn’t a red for Kompany? Absolute shit consistency in this league for refereeing

So Boly sees RED & is sent off for exactly the same kind of challenge as Kompany did against us, yet he stays on the fucking pitch…#JustSaying

Interesting – exactly the same tackle by Kompany v us but Boly sees red. And they say the FA want us to win it! I don’t think so.

But Kompany’s tackle was not a red 👀 #Boly pic.twitter.com/7NWSlRnv8e

Would love to know how that Boly challenge is in any way worse than Kompany’s on Salah.

Boly gets sent of but Kompany doesn’t against Mo?
The FA clearly want city to win the league. Its fixed.

Boly gets sent off but Kompany wasn’t two weeks ago at the same ground. No consistency once again from the FA.

Someone please explain why Vincent Kompany was not given a Red Card for hisbtackle on Salah yet Boly straight Red 🤷🏻♂️

Let’s just remember the Kompany challenge against Liverpool which was a yellow and then compare it to this. Where is the consistency with the referees in this country? Shambles https://t.co/vwxpTsyxIv

Kompany makes a two footed challenge – Just a warning from the Manchester Born Referee
