Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaps praise on ‘excellent’ Fred following Brighton display

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has moved to single midfielder Fred out for special praise, on the back of his side’s victory over Brighton.

Man United 3-1 Brighton

The Red Devils welcomed Graham Potter’s men to Old Trafford yesterday afternoon, for a Premier League clash.

United headed into proceedings on the back of a morale-boosting showing in their previous outing, when the Manchester giants put FK Partizan to the sword by 3 goals to nil.

And another 3-goal haul a little over 24 hours ago eventually saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men emerge with a 2nd-straight win.

Andreas Pereira put the hosts in front with 17 minutes on the clock, before a Davy Propper own goal 2 minutes later doubled United’s advantage.

Lewis Dunk appeared to have restored hope for Brighton just past the hour-mark, but an almost-immediate reply from Marcus Rashford made sure of all 3 points for the Red Devils.

‘The catalyst’

On the back of his side’s latest victory, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went on to state that United’s display versus Brighton was their ‘best of the season’ thus far.

Individually, meanwhile, the likes of Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial have since been widely-lauded for their respective performances.

However, speaking in his post-match press conference, Solskjaer was keen to single another of his side’s stars out for special praise.

The individual was Fred.

Having been afforded a consistent run of playing time of late, midfielder Fred has begun to show signs of life in United’s colours for the first time.

And Solskjaer has revealed his opinion that the Brazilian was actually ‘the catalyst’ behind the Red Devils’ fine showing yesterday afternoon:

‘You get confidence from playing games. He has not really had a run of games and I think he set us up with his midfield play.’

‘He won the ball. We had to get after them because, with Propper and [Dale] Stephens in midfield, we couldn’t let them get on the ball and I thought Fred was maybe the catalyst.’

‘Maybe there were a couple of fouls he shouldn’t have made in the first half to give them chances because that was one of the big opportunities they had, from set-plays.’

‘But, otherwise, he was excellent.’
