Liverpool’s victory over Aston Villa this evening saw Jurgen Klopp’s men join Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League’s history books.
Liverpool win it at the death
The Reds travelled to Villa Park a short time ago, for their latest league outing.
Liverpool entered proceedings sitting pretty atop the English top-flight table, 6 points clear of champions Manchester City.
After dropping their first points of the campaign two weeks ago at Manchester United, the Merseyside powerhouse bounced back last time out, with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham.
Klopp’s men also secured their spot in the League Cup’s quarter-finals this past Wednesday, courtesy of an incredible comeback and subsequent penalty shootout victory over Arsenal.
And, when all was said and done this evening, Liverpool came from behind for the 3rd-straight fixture, to eventually bag a last-gasp 3 points.
Villa took the lead with 20 minutes on the clock, when John McGinn’s delivery to the back post was slotted home by Trezeguet.
And Dean Smith’s men managed to hold onto their advantage until the 87th-minute, before becoming the latest victims of the Liverpool late show.
First, Andy Robertson got on the end of a Sadio Mane assist, to level things up.
Mane then turned goal-scorer with essentially the last kick of the game, nodding home into the far corner of Tom Heaton’s net from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint corner.
Liverpool equal Chelsea & Man City
And, as outlined above, Liverpool’s latest victory has seen the Reds etch their name into the Premier League history books.
The Anfield giants’ win at Villa took them to 31 points from their first 11 league outings of the season.
This stands as the joint-highest tally ever notched by a Premier League side over the same period:
