Manchester United have this evening provided early team news for the club’s meeting with Southampton this weekend.
Man United 1-2 Crystal Palace
The Red Devils welcomed Crystal Palace to Old Trafford last weekend, for their 3rd Premier League clash of the campaign.
United headed into proceedings hoping for an immediate bounce-back performance, having followed their opening day drubbing of Chelsea with a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Wolves.
However, things only went from bad to worse for the Manchester giants versus Palace.
A dismal display on the part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked as though it was set to result in the shares being spoiled, after Daniel James cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s first-half strike.
Incredibly, however, Palace went on to bag a late winner against the run of play, as Patrick van Aanholt slammed home at David De Gea’s near post.
90 – Patrick van Aanholt has become only the second ever player to score a 90th minute winner vs Man Utd in the Premier League, after Thierry Henry with Arsenal in January 2007. Van Aanholt is the first to do so in a match at Old Trafford. Incredible. #MUNCRY pic.twitter.com/uITm70IWZV

Martial & Shaw ruled out
An altogether miserable afternoon’s work for United, meanwhile, was compounded by a pair of blows on the injury front.
First off, Luke Shaw was forced off with a hamstring problem on the stroke of half-time.
And this was followed by Anthony Martial also pulling up with an issue, shortly before the full-time whistle.
Speaking in a press conference following his side’s defeat, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down the pair’s respective fitness concerns:
‘We’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.’
However, the days since have seen the news on both United stars prove far from encouraging.
As such, in anticipation of their upcoming meeting with Southampton, Manchester United have this evening provided an update on the fitness of Shaw and Martial.
As was expected, Shaw’s hamstring issue has seen the stopper ruled out.
While some hope had remained for Martial, though, the French attacker’s chances of featuring at St. Mary’s have also been officially shut down:

Reliable injury expert Ben Dinnery, meanwhile, has since provided further updates on all of Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah:
Diogo Dalot will also miss the trip to St Mary’s, but it is hoped that the Portuguese defender would be in line to return after the international break. Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah remain long-term absentees. #MUFC
