Man United to make formal approach for Sean Longstaff this week – Telegraph

Longstaff’s breakout season

Sean Longstaff was promoted to Newcastle’s senior side late last year.

The Newcastle youth product had previously enjoyed loan spells at Blackpool and Kilmarnock.

Longstaff also made over 40 appearances for Newcastle’s under-23 side, in which he scored nine and assisted nine.

The 21-year-old was then handed his Premier League debut on the 26th of December 2018.

Longstaff came on as a sub and played 17 minutes as Newcastle lost 4-0 to Liverpool.

Man United targeting Longstaff

Longstaff then went on to play eight more league games for Newcastle this past season.

The Englishman showed lots of promise in said games, but his season was cut short due to a knee injury.

Despite his limited first-team experience, though, Longstaff appears to have caught the eye of Manchester United.

The midfielder has previously spoken out about being linked with big clubs, but did state at the time that he was ‘100% focused’ on Newcastle:

“I’m massively flattered to have my name even mentioned in those conversations but like I said, I’m 100% focused on Newcastle and trying to get fit and get back in the team here.

“For me it’s nice to be have said about you and be linked with top clubs but for me, this is what I’ve always wanted to do.

“I’ve always wanted to play for Newcastle and I’ve only had a little taste of that so for me, it’s about getting fit as soon as I can and getting back on the pitch for Newcastle and making more memories of the future.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.

Now, the Telegraph is reporting that Man United will make a formal approach for Longstaff at some point this week.

The Telegraph put Longstaff’s price-tag at somewhere around £25m.

He would mark United’s third signing of the summer, after Daniel James and Aaron-Wan-Bissaka.
