Former Arsenal fan-favourite Santi Cazorla has this afternoon been named as part of the latest Spanish international squad.
Gunners’ standout
Gifted midfielder Cazorla departed the Emirates last summer, following 6 years on Arsenal’s books.
The 34-year-old was widely-regarded as one of the north Londoners’ finest signings of the last decade, with his classy displays at the heart of Arsene Wenger’s midfield having lit up an often-trying spell in the club’s history.
However, unfortunately for both Cazorla and the Gunners, the defining memory of the Spaniard’s career in England will always be his injury troubles.
An incredible series of fitness issues over the latter years of his time with Arsenal saw Cazorla manage just 11 appearances during his final two campaigns with the club.
Villarreal resurgence
As such, it came as little surprise to see the diminutive midfielder depart the Emirates last summer.
Cazorla made a return to his home country, linking up with Villarreal for the third time in his career.
And the months since have seen the veteran go on to rediscover both his fitness, and form.

All told, across 44 appearances this season (33 starts), Cazorla racked up 6 goals and 11 assists, playing a pivotal role in guiding the Yellow Submarine away from relegation.
Spain call
And, as per the aforementioned announcement this afternoon, the beloved midfielder has been rewarded for his surprise resurgence with a recall to the Spanish national squad.
Cazorla’s call-up comes ahead of La Roja’s European Championship qualifiers versus the Faroe Islands and Sweden next month.
It is the first time that the former Arsenal man has been included in a Spanish squad since 2015.
