Cardiff 0-Everton 3

Everton travelled to Cardiff on Tuesday evening as they looked to end their poor run of form.

Marco Silva’s side had lost their last three games before Cardiff.

Cardiff, on the other hand, had won two of their last three prior to facing Everton.

Neil Warnock’s side were also at home on Tuesday and they are normally much better at there.

Despite this, it would be Everton who dominated the game.

Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring in the 41st minute before adding his second in the 66th.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin would then put the result beyond doubt in the 91st minute.

Why Davies did not feature

One noticeable absence from Everton’s matchday squad vs Cardiff was Tom Davies.

Davies had started Everton’s previous two league games vs Man City and Watford, captaining them on both occasions.

Given he was Everton’s captain in their last game, his complete omission on Tuesday was quite strange.

Marco Silva has since explained why he left the 20-year-old out:

“Morgan [Schneiderlin] gave me the right answer in the past 15 days. Tom [Davies] and Andre [Gomes] did well in the last game – but I am here to take the decision about the best XI for each match.”
