Mauricio Pochettino celebrates Spurs 2nd equaliser at Liverpool

Man United & Tottenham

Both Manchester United and Tottenham were in Champions League action last midweek.

At Old Trafford, Man United’s limitations were exposed in a 2-0 defeat to PSG.

That was the first time in 12 matches Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had lost in the United dugout.

At Wembley, Tottenham put one foot in the quarterfinals following a sublime 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs were without Harry Kane and Dele Alli against BVB.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Old Trafford switch

On Sunday, the London Evening Standard has posted a potentially significant update regarding Man United’s next full-time managerial appointment.

The general narrative is that Solskjaer is up against Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino.

In bad news for Spurs fans, it’s being reported that Man United have no intention of being pushed away from Pochettino for financial reasons.

Put another way, the Red Devils are ready to pay millions and millions to prise Pochettino from Spurs:

If Daniel Levy believes a compensation package running into tens of millions of pounds will prove prohibitive to Ed Woodward’s pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino, he will be disappointed.

Standard Sport understands United will not be put off by the prospect of paying Spurs a compensation fee, which it is believed will exceed the £34m value of the remaining four years of Pochettino’s contract.

Mauricio Pochettino’s contract with Spurs

Back in May 2018, Mauricio Pochettino committed his long-term future to Spurs.

The Argentine agreed a five-year deal with the Lillywhites. It’s believed Pochettino earns £8.5 million a year with Spurs.

Moreover, it’s worth noting that Pochettino is rather unique in modern day football. It’s well-known that the Spurs manager does’t have an agent as he negotiates all deals by himself.
