As per a report from the Evening Standard, Tottenham hope to utilise funds from the sale of Vincent Janssen in a move for Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler.
Spurs struggles
24-year-old striker Janssen has been on Spurs’ books since the summer of 2016.
The Dutch international made the move to London in a 20 million Euro deal, on the back of a prolific stint in his home country with AZ Alkmaar.
However, to say that Janssen’s spell in England has since proven disappointing would be putting it lightly.
To this point, the hitman has managed a paltry 2 Premier League goals for Tottenham.
These came across 27 appearances during his debut campaign with the club, with Janssen having since also struggled to rediscover his form during a loan spell with Fenerbahce last season.
And the current campaign has only seen things go from bad to worse for the 17-time capped Oranje international, with Janssen having not even been assigned a jersey number in North London, and the Feyenoord youth product currently plying his trade with Spurs’ U23’s.

Betis bound?
As such, fresh rumours that Janssen could be set for a January departure from England have come as little surprise.
And, as per the aforementioned report from the Evening Standard, Tottenham are currently in talks with La Liga outfit Real Betis over the Dutchman’s sale.
Betis seem keen on a loan deal, whereas Spurs would prefer an outright sale. A compromise could be reached, however, if Betis agree to include a mandatory purchase option in any potential agreement.
Janssen’s representatives, meanwhile, have been left frustrated with their client’s rumoured £12 million asking price:
‘Clubs do come forward, but it doesn’t actually become concrete. The most important thing now is that Janssen will play again.’
Spurs’ Soler swoop
Tottenham, for their part, nevertheless remain confident in their chances of offloading Janssen before the close of the January transfer window on Thursday.
And, if the capital giants manage to do so, they will reportedly look to reinvest any funds recouped in a swoop for Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler.
Gifted 22-year-old midfielder Soler is highly-regarded in his home country of Spain, and is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, who recently departed Spurs for China, by the club’s board.
