Mike Ashley hopeful of selling Newcastle by January

Newcastle to be sold by January?

Newcastle United fans have been handed a huge boost on Monday as Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley looks to be actively selling the club.

Ashley has never been too popular at Newcastle since becoming chairman. Largely due to his unwillingness to back managers with enough cash in the transfer market.

Ashley often receives criticism from fans and pundits alike. However, that all looks like it could be coming to an end, sooner rather than later.

According to Mike Ashley himself, he is actively trying to sell Newcastle and would like it to be done before the 2019 January transfer window.

Speaking about selling the North East club, Ashley stated:

“I am hopeful for the Newcastle fans, for the club, for everybody, that I will be able to step aside and we will be able to get an owner in that will please everybody.

“I’d like it to be before the January transfer window.”

However, Newcastle fans should not get too ahead of themselves.

Ashley did try to sell the club back in early 2017 and Amanda Staveley was said to be in talks to buy Newcastle. But for whatever reason, that deal fell through.

Rafa Benitez celebrates Newcastle win over Stoke

Newcastle’s improved form

News of Ashley selling the club comes on the back of Newcastle finally starting to find some form this season.

After failing to win any of their first 10 league games of the season, Newcastle have lost just one of their last five Premier League games.

Rafa Benitez’s side have picked up wins over Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley in recent games.

Unfortunately, they did lose their last game to West Ham.

But if Ashley does sell and Newcastle’s new owner allows Benitez to spend big in the window, Newcastle could easily turn into a top eight team with Rafa’s guidance.
