Eddie Howe speaks out over Callum Wilson to Chelsea rumours

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has today moved to play down reports that Callum Wilson could make the move to Chelsea next month.

Chelsea 1-0 Bournemouth

Howe’s men actually faced off against Chelsea last night, in a League Cup quarter-final clash.

In the end, a hard-fought affair at Stamford Bridge saw the hosts’ class shine through, with a solitary Eden Hazard strike 5 minutes from time having proven the difference between the sides when all was said and done.

Chelsea links

Another of the main talking points at Stamford Bridge last night surrounded the future of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

26-year-old hitman Wilson has been heavily-linked with a potential move to Chelsea over recent weeks, with the Express having even gone as far as to claim that the Blues are ‘confident’ of sealing a £30 million January move for the English international.

Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola then did little to quell the speculation earlier this week, when he confirmed that Wilson is indeed ‘of interest’ to the capital giants:

‘I’m sure that there are a lot of players that are linked with us.’

‘Certainly Callum Wilson is doing very well for his club and he is of interest. Not just for us, but for many.’

‘Callum is our player’

However, when asked for his take on whether or not Wilson could be on the move next month in a press conference earlier today, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe was adamant in his stance that the Cherries’ standout will be going nowhere for the time being:

‘Not from my perspective, no.’

‘Callum is our player. He is very focused on us and you could see that from his performance [last night].’

‘He gave everything for the team.’
