An incredible statistic surrounding the on-pitch connection (or lack thereof) between Chelsea attackers Eden Hazard and Willian has been garnering plenty of attention online over the last 24 hours.
Hazard shouldering the burden
Maurizio Sarri’s side have endured a somewhat hit-and-miss campaign to this point, with a number of surprise blips over the last couple of months having seen Chelsea slip to 4th in the Premier League table.
Goals have proven particularly hard to come by for the Blues of late, with the struggles of the likes of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud having resulted in Chelsea failing to find the net more than twice since the beginning of November.
One individual, however, who has continued to perform at a scintillating level in the capital giants’ attack is Eden Hazard.
Belgian dynamo Hazard has been forced into an unfamiliar false 9 role by manager Maurizio Sarri of late, though the 27-year-old has nevertheless continued to prove decisive at a Premier League-high rate:
19 – Eden Hazard has been directly involved in 19 goals in the Premier League this season (10 goals, nine assists); the most of any player in the competition. Leader. pic.twitter.com/Si7ZWPtv8T

Willian vs Mata comparison
Hazard’s latest Chelsea goal-haul came on Wednesday night, when the former Lille standout’s brace saw the Blues pick up all 3 points at Watford.
And his double also proved a significant one on a personal level, with Hazard having broken the century-mark for goals scored in a Chelsea jersey as a result of his match-winning performance.
In the aftermath of Wednesday night’s clash at Vicarage Road, a number of Chelsea’s supporters moved to provide a breakdown of exactly how Hazard broke the 100 goals scored-mark in the club’s colours, with some having even gone as far as to highlight the number of times that the Belgian was set up by his Blues’ teammates since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2012.
And it is the latter of these stats which has since seen many take notice of two players in particular.
The pair in question are Juan Mata and Willian.
Spanish creator Mata spent 18 months playing alongside Hazard in London, setting the 27-year-old up for a total of 4 goals.
Willian, meanwhile, is currently enjoying his 6th campaign plying his trade with Hazard.
However, somewhat bizarrely, he, like Mata, has notched just 4 assists for Hazard, despite having played alongside Chelsea’s star man for over 4 seasons longer:
Wow. Juan Mata & Willian have both assisted Hazard 4 times in a Chelsea shirt.
